How to use, maintain and repair your Skin i Expert, Braun IPL PL7XXX service products
Skin i Expert, Braun IPL PL7XXX

Firstly, you should know that all Braun IPL devices are designed with your safety in mind. That being said, we recommend you consult a hair-skin chart, which can be found on the packaging and user instructions of your IPL device, to see if it's safe and effective for you. Ask a doctor if you are unsure about the suitability of your skin type for IPL hair removal treatments - usually, IPL works best on people with dark hairs and fair skin - or if you suffer from a particular skin complaint. Bear in mind that Braun IPL technology benefits from our SensoAdapt™ system which operates continuously to automatically ensure that only the right sort of skin tone gets treated.
An important feature of your IPL device is that its light beam will only be triggered once contact is made with your skin. The light that's visible during the treatment is perfectly safe. Consequently, there is no need to wear goggles or other sorts of protective eyewear. Nonetheless, it is not a good idea to look directly into the glass filter or attempt to activate the device toward the eyes. In other words, be sensible with your IPL device and you won't go wrong.
IPL devices are designed for use on the legs, arms, underarms, bikini line and pubic area of women. You can also use them for female facial hair removal but stick to below the cheekbones only and don't use your device near the eyes or the forehead. For male users, IPL devices are suited to the shoulder area and below. This means the chest, back, arms, stomach and legs are all fine. However, do not use an IPL to remove male facial hair or the neck. Nor should you use it anywhere on your genital area.
Not everyone does, but some people experience slight discomfort when using their IPL device. Don't worry because this is normal. The sensation of heat or some reddening of the skin won't last. The tingling sensation of heat tends to only occur when you activate the flash. Redness of the skin usually disappears within 24 hours. Helpfully, you can operate your IPL device in its gentle mode to reduce these sensations.
Without getting technical, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a broadband light source that emits a beam of light that heats up the melanin in hair follicles causing damage to the hair's root. This light beam isn't constant, however. It is pulsed in a series of flashes to regulate its intensity. All the Braun IPLs have SensoAdapt™ technology that does this for you automatically, allowing for salon smooth skin at home. Basically, this technology is an integrated skin tone sensor that continuously measures the differences in skin tone. It automatically adjusts the light intensity to the right level so you get just the right amount of light needed to deal with the hair root without damaging your skin.
With repeated use, IPL delays the production of new hair so less and less intensity of light is typically required. Consequently, using an IPL device with SensoAdapt™ technology can prevent further hair regrowth over time. The energy of the light, the colour of your hair and how often you use your device are all factors that will determine how effective an IPL treatment will be for you.
If the power bars do not light up, then the device's treatment window might not be placed on the skin, a safety measure to prevent light from being emitted inappropriately. Note that, the device's skin tone sensors need to be in full contact with the skin for it to work. Therefore, it may be necessary for you to move your chosen IPL model by hand such that both of these sensors are in contact with your skin.
You should also check whether your device is plugged in if it isn't powering up, a common cause of operational problems. Press either the mode or power button on your device to activate it.
Firstly, when you use your IPL device on your face, there may be a faint burning aroma. Typically, this comes from the very fine vellus hair on the face, which is being burned during IPL treatment. It is nothing to worry about. Residues on the skin contact cap can also cause odours. To prevent this, just remove any visible hair before using your device with your preferred hair removal method. If you choose to do this, then clean the treatment area and pat it dry before starting your IPL treatment.
Our troubleshooting tips are useful for dealing with most problems IPL users encounter. For unresolved issues, Braun offers product customer service through our service centres which you can find out more about here.
